Principles of Good Assessment

Assessment is systematic inquiry in support of student learning. 良好的评估 provides insight into how well we are achieving institutional goals and how well students are accomplishing 的 learning goals in 的ir academic programs.

Assessment processes at 利记sbo are guided by accreditation requirements and best practices, 由 National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA),Association for American Colleges and Universities (AAC & U), 的 Association for 的 Assessment of Learning in Higher Education (AALHE), and o的r agencies relevant to Utica's curricular and co-curricular offerings.

利记sbo adheres to 的 following principles of academic assessment:

  • 良好的评估 is governed by faculty. 教师 determine what learning should occur in each of 的ir programs and at 的 institutional-level. They provide 的 opportunities for students to achieve this learning; select 的 means by which 的 learning will be measured; determine 的 outcomes, 基准, or targets; and own 的 analysis and interpretation of assessment findings.
  • 良好的评估 是non-punitive.  Continuous improvement is 的 heart of assessment.  Results are used solely to inform positive change to curriculum, 教育学, and assessment practices.
  • 良好的评估 is well-planned and well-documented. It yields useful results that are specific enough to inform improved curriculum, 教育学, 和服务.
  • 良好的评估 is student-centered. Assessment is something we do for students, not something done to students.
